Simcoe for SARA

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and four Charlottesville breweries have come together to support SARA in an effort to raise awareness of and help prevent sexual violence in our communities.

Each of these local businesses has committed to working with SARA to train their staff on bystander intervention. They have also brewed their own versions of a special beer to benefit SARA during the month of April: Simcoe for SARA.

THE GAME

Each brewery is hosting a Simcoe for SARA launch event and will have their Simcoe on tap throughout the month of April. SARA has created a "passport" with all 4 breweries listed. Get your passport at the brewery of your choice any time in April, then a stamp at each brewery when you buy a pint of their version of Simcoe for SARA. Collect all 4 stamps and turn in your passport at the last brewery for a small piece of swag. All passports must be turned in by April 30, 2019, and will be entered to win a Grand Prize, awarded at Walk for SARA on Saturday, May 4th.

Join us at the launch parties for each Simcoe for SARA and get started on your stamps!

March 29 - Reason Beer - 5:30pm

April 3 - Champion Brewing Company - 5:30pm

April 4 - South Street Brewery - 5:30pm

This is your chance to explore some local breweries you may not have visited, and to support a great cause while having fun. While you have all month to participate, if you come to all four launch events, you could have your first passport completed within the first week!

THE BEERS

Each Simcoe for SARA is different, with the underlying connection of SARA and the Simcoe hop. Simcoe is an American hop known for bright, citrusy flavors with earthy undertones. It is a favorite among American brewers and consumers alike. The brewers at each of these local businesses have put their own twist on a Pale Ale that features Simcoe.

THE RULES

Visit each brewery and purchase a pint of Simcoe for SARA ($2 Tuesdays do not count, since that is not a pint). They will stamp your passport, also available at the breweries. When you have all 4 stamped, turn in your passport for a small thank you gift. This gift varies by brewery and may change week to week at their discretion. You may enter multiple times, as long as all passports are stamped by all breweries and are turned in by April 30, 2019. All completed passports will then be entered into a Grand Prize drawing, the winner of which will be announced at Walk for SARA on May 4th. You do not have to be present to win, but we would love for you to be part of Walk for SARA. Register yourself or create/join a team here.

You must be 21 or older to participate. Please drink responsibly and do not drive while under the influence of alcohol or any other drug.

**SARA staff and board are not eligible for the Grand Prize drawing.

If your company or organization is interested in Bystander Intervention training, please contact SARA at 434-295-7273 or prevention@SARAcville.org.
