October 2023: Letter from the Director

Dear Friends of SARA,

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time when we come together to shed light on the pervasive issue that affects countless lives particularly within historically oppressed communities.

The Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA) and the Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE) have dedicated over four decades to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence in the Charlottesville area.

Each organization adapted over the years yet, with a remarkable history of mutual support, this partnership continues to thrive. Between sharing knowledge and making time for fellowship, it is undeniable that this partnership was instrumental in a smooth transition over the past three months.

We invite you to celebrate the invaluable work at the Shelter for Help in Emergency (SHE) during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the enduring power of collaboration. Movements can achieve greater outcomes when we acknowledge the interconnectedness of the issues we aim to solve.

May our forty-year history of working together live on for many years to come. May we cultivate new relationships that build us up, hold us accountable, and celebrate our achievements.
With gratitude,
Bass Wolf Interim Executive Director
