Prevention: Programs

You are the most important person in your child’s life, and we are here to support you!

Please peruse the resources below, consider joining our Parent Council or a parenting group, or contact us at prevention@saracville.org

The Parent Council is a small cohort of parents from around our local region who meet regularly to develop outreach, training, and advocacy methods to increase the primary prevention of sexual assault in our community. Parents on the council are selected based on years of experience as a parent, and commitment to protective factors that can prevent sexual violence. Parents on the council are willing to use their own experiences to help other parents, and are interested in increasing their own knowledge about SV prevention in order to promote protective factors in the community. Parents on the council will help inform SARA prevention programming.

Two of the main goals of the council are:

  1. Helping parents talk with their children and teens about appropriate and inappropriate behaviors and healthy sexual development, including consent, sexual abuse, objectification, and addressing sexual harassment in public, school, and the workplace

  2. Promoting social-emotional skills and community-building, including increased empathy, bystander intervention tools, and understandings of intersectionality
