Volunteers have always played a vital role in SARA’s mission to assist and empower people who have experienced sexual assault. SARA seeks community members of any gender to be trained as Volunteer Hotline Advocates or Community Outreach Volunteers.
Volunteer Orientation:
SARA invites you to an open house February 1, 2012 from 6pm to 7pm to find out what volunteer opportunities are available. There will be a brief introduction explaining SARA services and the benefits of being a SARA volunteer! For more information please contact Theresa at csc@saracville.org or Jasmine at crc@saracville.org.
Volunteer Sexual Assault Advocates:
We could not provide such high-quality, round-the-clock services to the community without our deeply committed and caring Hotline Advocates. Our well-trained Hotline Advocates provide information, referrals, and crisis intervention to survivors and their families on SARA’s 24-hour hotline.
All potential Hotline Advocates provide us with a completed application (below). The second step is to interview with the SARA volunteer coordinator, and the third step is a background check. Finally, all Hotline Advocates participate in a 40-hour training that spans seven weeks, either in the Fall or Spring. Spring training begins March 12th! For more information please contact Theresa Miller at csc@saracville.org or (434) 295-7273 ext. 27.

Community Outreach Volunteers:
Community Outreach Volunteers are activists who organize and participate in community awareness events and projects. As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you may choose to be part of the Action Committee, a team that supports the planning of SARA Outreach projects, or you may be part of the Task Force, the team that implements these programs. You’ll get to experience teamwork with other people in our community who care about making positive change, and you’ll get to interact with the community at events while also providing the necessary support for these projects to take place. Please review the descriptions in the application, and let us know if you have any questions. Community Outreach Volunteers keep us connected to our community!
Community Outreach Volunteers participate in a 4-hour training that focuses on SARA, activism, and outreach. Spring Training will be in March, 2012!
