Consent workshop organized by PVCC student May 28th

On May 28th, Crystal Lambert, in collaboration with other students at Piedmont College, will host a Consent Workshop, a casual discussion group to get the community to open up about our ideas regarding consent. SARA staff and volunteers plan to take part in this workshop, and are delighted that the community is taking steps to open up dialogue to begin to understand the various ideas and types of consent that are floating around among us! There will be group discussion, break-out groups, and hopefully we’ll all develop a deeper understanding about the diversity of views in our community.

Some of the questions you’ll get to ask AND answer are:

  • How do you define consent?
  • Have you ever talked about consent with your partner(s) or friends?
  • Do you think talking ruins the mood?
  • Do you think about affection, sexuality, and boundaries? Do you talk about these issues with people? In what kinds of contexts do you talk about them? With whom?
  • Do you seek consent the same way when you are drunk as you do when you are sober?
  • Do you think ‘liberation’ might be different for different people?

It’s on May 28th at 6pm in the NEW Albemarle County Office Building (1600 5th Street Extended) in Room B. Refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there!
